The ferry becomes part of the adventure as we head north through the Wrangell Narrows - the single most difficult navigational stretch on the Passage. Petersburg is Alaska's "Little Norway" and Southeast's busiest processing port, home to the area's largest fishing fleet. Natural Wonders of the SE Coast | |
|---|---|
![]() When you think of the East Coast you usually think of big cities, but there are many natural areas that have been set aside as well. Our adventure begins in Virginia Beach as we follow the coast south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This is where the Wright Brothers made their first flight and where we try our hand at hang-gliding, take a 4-wheel adventure along the beach to find Wild Mustangs, and explore the many lighthouses the dangerous coastlines famous for. A scenic ferry ride takes us and our RV back to the mainland where we head to South Carolina and Myrtle Beach. Just outside of Charleston we take a kayak trip to an island with a pelican rookery. At Hilton Head we find wild dolphins, painted buntings, and take a trip on a shrimp boat to learn how one of our favorite foods is harvested. One-third of all the saltwater marshes along the East Coast are located in Georgia. An eco-tour explains how important the marsh is to the creatures that inhabit it, like oysters, crabs, wading birds, and manatees. On Sapalo Island we learn its history of plantations and slaves. A hike around Cumberland Island reveals its miles of beautiful beaches. We follow famous highway A1A south along the Florida coast stopping at historic St. Augustine to see the Fountain of Youth. The Kennedy Space Center is world famous but did you know that the surrounding Merritt Wildlife Refuge is a natural hot spot bursting with wildlife? Nearby we observe the age old ritual of the giant loggerhead turtle coming back to the beach to lay its eggs. The Everglades is the place to visit for natural wonders. The national park is one of the most unusual in the country. Alligators and crocodiles are king here along with hundreds of other species of wildlife. The drive over the bridges of the Florida Keys is a spectacular display of colorful water and sand. Along the way we scuba dive with sharks, catch giant tarpon, film the endangered Key Deer, kayak through mangroves, and take an ultra-light flight. Our journey ends in quirky Key West with a trip to the beautiful Dry Tortugas. Baja RV Adventure | |
|---|---|
![]() Come along on the adventure of a lifetime! In 1975, future filmmaker John Holod traveled the 1,060 mile Transpeninsular Baja Highway from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas by motorcycle. He now returns in the comfort of his RV to make a video about this incredible desert paradise. The adventure begins at the busiest border crossing in the world. We take a tour with the US Border Patrol to see what is being done to secure this hot spot. Today's Tijuana is much different from the rundown place many of us remember. Ensenada is famous for its fish market, the blowhole, Estro Beach and Hussong's Cantina - "the bar that built a town". A side trip takes us to San Felipe on the Sea of Cortez, a beach playground for RV'ers. Sierra National Park, looking much like Northern California, is home to the Pico Diablo, the highest mountain in all of Baja. Our route south takes us to San Quintin and El Rosario, the home of Mama Espinosa's famous restaurant where we talk to Mama herself. Bahia de Los Angeles, one of the most beautiful places on the peninsula, is home to a wide variety of wildlife and provides access to the Midriff Islands and life forms found nowhere else on Earth. Guerrero Negro is famous for salt production and the world's friendliest grey whales...who get close enough to pet! We also visit a preserve protecting the endangered Peninsula Pronghorn, which have a population of less than two hundred. In San Ignacio we tour the mission and enjoy a parade honoring its patron saint. Santa Rosalia's history features mining and French colonial style architecture. Mulege - the oasis in the desert - offers palm trees, dorado fishing, birding and a hike to nearby cave paintings. Camping on the beach a few feet from the sea makes many consider Bahia Conception the ultimate Baja destination. Loreto is one of the most pleasant towns in Baja featuring a mission museum and a 4 wheel drive side trip to San Javier and its well preserved church. A visit to San Carlos allows us to explore Magdalena Bay with its mangroves and estuaries. La Paz is noted for an attractive waterfront walkway and some of the best scuba diving on the peninsula. The adventure ends in the popular tourist resort of Cabo San Lucas. This is an adventure-packed 75 minute experience! - Preview -- Order - | |
